We will carry out an extensive programme of highly accurate measurements of atmospheric greenhouse gases in Australia and New Zealand by both remote sensing and in situ techniques as part of the international Total Carbon Column Observing Network. The data will be used to calibrate and improve remote sensing measurements from a new generation of satellites devoted to greenhouse measurements, thus providing accurate global mapping of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and they will be incorporated into a variety of atmospheric chemical transport models to enhance our knowledge of the sources and sinks of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
