The aim of this project is the development of a novel hybrid electrochemical energy system integrating the advantages of the lithium-ion battery (high energy) and the supercapacitor (high power). Novel single unit hybrid lithium battery/supercapacitor electrochemical systems will be established using selected advanced battery and supercapacitor electrode materials and electrolytes which are developed in this proposal. The expected outcomes include understanding the degradation mechanisms of electrode materials in novel hybrid systems with different advanced characterization methods.
