Abstract


  • This project is in the area of pure mathematics called Functional Analysis. It seeks to provide a broad interface between dynamical systems and operator algebras - an area which we call noncommutative dynamical systems. A noncommutative dynamical system is an infinite dimensional algebra of operators on a Hilbert space which models the complex behaviour of a dynamical system. We shall use our expertise in combinatorial C*-algebras to produce new discrete models for the complicated algebras which arise. We anticipate that there will be a profitable exchange of concepts, invariants and technologies between operator algebras and dynamical systems which will be of benefit to researchers in both areas.
