  • Discovery Projects

Abstract

  • Increasing the participation of low socio-economic status students at universities is an Australian priority, with 433 million dollars allocated to improve representation. These students have a comparatively higher rate of early school leaving prior to year twelve, and are more likely to disengage from school in early teenage years. This project will investigate how 12-15 year olds disengaged from schooling perceive university. It will examine the influences of low socio-economic status on participation and the impact on young peopleâ¬"s perceptions. This project will improve understanding of the relationship of this vulnerable group to university and assist policy directed toward improving participation in university education.
