Abstract


  • Ozone is a trace gas of central importance in tropospheric chemistry and air quality and an important greenhouse gas. This project will investigate the production, distribution and transport of tropospheric ozone and its precursors at scales from regional and urban Australia to the Southern Hemisphere. Multi-year remote sensing and in situ observations of key gases involved in ozone chemistry will be combined with chemical transport models to improve our understanding of the regional sources and sinks of ozone and its precursors. The results will be incorporated into a global atmospheric model producing better air quality forecasts over the region and potentially reducing atmospheric pollution related illness within Australia.
