Abstract


  • The objective of this proposal is to undertake direct calibration of AMS and AAR (amino-acid racemisation) dating of single foraminifera of the genus Amphistegina, which our pilot program showed to be the most effective benthic foram for calibration. AMS dating will provide the calibration that will enable us to extend our dating using AAR to reconstruct the broad accretion pattern and sedimentation rates over the last 3000 years from key geomorphological sites around Tarawa Atoll, Kiribati, one of the most vulnerable of places to the impacts of sea-level rise.
