Abstract


  • DNA replication and cell division are central biological processes that are carried out in bacteria by dynamic multi-protein systems called the replisome and the divisome. Although decades of study have yielded a wealth of information about the structures and functions of individual components of these systems, our understanding of the behaviour and assembled structures of these proteins as collectives is still limited. By measuring synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering of replisomal and divisomal proteins and their protein-protein complexes, we can model these structures to build up a more detailed picture of the architectures of these molecular machineries.
