Abstract


  • The terahertz gap is a yawning chasm in the electromagnetic spectrum between the mature technologies of optical science on the one side and microwave engineering on the other. We aim to bridge the gap. The tools we will use to build the bridge are experimental and theoretical physics; the materials we will employ in the construction are advanced inorganic, organic and oxide devices with tailored electronic and magnetic properties. The final structure will be a shared triumph of fundamental science and applied engineering, capped with the tripartite coronet of stronger sources, enhanced optics and improved detectors for terahertz radiation.
