We will establish a vibrant hub for state-of-the-art capabilities and expertise in ambient ionisation and imaging mass spectrometry. Robust methods will be developed for both: rapid detection (with structural elucidation) of molecules directly from surfaces; and the validated mapping of molecular distributions. Targeted applications of these powerful technologies, in collaboration with leading researchers, will significantly extend knowledge in the fields of lipidomics, ocular science, microbiology, free radical chemistry and biology and protein science.
