New laser and mass spectrometry-based tools for comprehensive structural elucidation of lipids and their biomolecular interactions

Abstract


  • Building on a strong track record of innovation in lipid mass spectrometry, we will advance current capabilities by implementing laser-based approaches for; (i) structural characterisation of isomeric lipids (including stereoisomers); and (ii) investigating non-covalent lipid-protein interactions. When integrated with existing lipidomics protocols in our laboratories, this will provide a powerful and unique platform for lipid research directly supporting the national research priority of Frontier Technologies for Australian Industries. We also describe the application of these novel technologies in collaborative research into lipid-related disorders in support of the priority Promoting and Maintaining Good Health.
