This projct will employ the latest generation of micro-sampling and dating techniques to produce the first large scale and robust chronology for the spectacular aboriginal rock art sequence of Wolrd Heritage significance in the Kimberley region of Western Austrlaia. In doing so, it will provide the archaeological and envrionmental sciences with new opportunities to investigate the interactions between rock art, material culture, human evolution, migration and environmental changes. It will enhance national cultural assessment and management in the Kimberley; a federal government priority due to planned industrial development in this region.
