Overview


Having worked for many years in industry, including as European Director of Customer Service of a manufacturing multinational company, Grace enjoys blending real-life experience with academic rigour. Grace's previous roles included Manager Internal Communications and Manager Business Excellence, where she first developed her coaching skills. Grace is a UOW accredited Peer Reviewer of Teaching and is particularly interested in challenging and interactive learning sessions, learning from her students, and authentic assessments. From 2007 to 2013, Grace directed the Doctor of Business Administration. In 2008, Grace launched the Master of Business Coaching, one of very few Masters programs in the world with a focus on Business Coaching, combining theoretical underpinnings with experiential adult learning and reflection. Grace was Faculty Education Chair from 2013 - 2016 and has been Chair of UOW College's Academic Board since 2016.

Research Overview


  • In addition to educational research, Grace's research interests include coaching, leadership and in particular, how coaching can contribute to individual, team and organisational success. Grace's PhD compared leadership practices in German and UK organisations. Grace has also carried out research in business excellence and innovation in SMEs. Grace's book Coaching and Mentoring for Business was published by Sage in 2014. Grace has been interviewed on ABC 702, ABC Illawarra and BFM (Malaysian radio station) and her work has also been featured in the Financial Times, Daily Telegraph (Australia), Illawarra Mercury, ANZ InBusiness Magazine, The Conversation and other publications.

Impact Story


  • There has been a significant development and broader understanding of some of the free methods that students use to cheat. This work was picked up by highly regarded publications such as Times Higher Education and other media outlets both domestically and internationally. It led to extensive discussions across all levels of education and a reexamination of scientific outputs by agencies including NASA. The impact is ongoing and has led to change in practices through the training of education professionals in detecting cheating and assessment design.

  • Grace is a Director of St. Mary's Star of the Sea College and also on the Board of The Illawarra Connection and the Management Advisory Board of the Australian Health Services Research Institute at UOW. Grace is on the editorial board and a reviewer for the International Journal of Evidence-based Coaching and Mentoring, and also reviews for other journals and conferences.

Teaching Overview


  • My teaching has been with postgraduate students, primarily in coaching, managing people, managing in multi-nationals and with our doctoral students and masters students undertaking research projects. I love learning with my students and encouraging mutual support among students.
