Buyung Kosasih obtained his Bachelor of Engineering Degree and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Wollongong. His main research interest include river and wind based renewable energy technologies; green eco-friendly lubricants for material processing; and applied fluid dynamics of industrial thin coating process.

  • (July 2021) PhD Scholarship – Experimental and Computational Fluid Dynamics

    About the scholarship

    Expression of interest are sought from potential PhD student to work on a study to understand the fluid dynamic of the jet wiping process in continuous galvanizing lines. The project will involve high level computational fluid dynamic modelling using smoothed particle hydrodynamics and/or Large Eddy Simulation Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) complementary to experimental study.

    The PhD will be working within the ARC Steel Research Hub who is seeking dynamic, self-motivated and well-qualified candidates with high-quality research experience/passion in the fields of expertise applicable to the relevant opportunity. You must have a passion for applied, industry-focused research, and high quality communication skills to support successful industry collaborations. You will require strong time and project management skills to ensure project deliverables are met, and you must be prepared to spend significant time in industry partner’s facilities in order to understand and work collaboratively to address the issues faced by the industry.

    You will be supported through additional mentoring, training and personal development designed to help prepare you for a career in both academia or industry. The candidate will work closely with a team consisting of Research Fellow and Chief Investigator and other students.

    Stipends
    The scholarship is for three years full-time for doctoral candidates with a stipend of over $AUD 30,000 pa (tax free and indexed annually).

    Selection criteria
    Essential
    - Academic qualification. Applicants should hold a Masters by Research, or an Honours 1st class (or equivalent) undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or the equivalent combination
      of professional experience and academic qualifications.
    - Communication skill in both in writing and orally presenting research work and outcomes to different audiences

    Highly Desirable
    - Experience in performing CFD simulations
    - Experience in performing experimental fluid dynamics

    Conditions for application
    - Applicants are expected to commit to full-time study and have the capacity to be based at the Wollongong campus.
    - Applicants should submit cover letter detailing relevant experience and research interest; CV with the names and addresses of two referees; and Academic transcripts.
    - Both domestic and international prospective students are encouraged to apply.
