Gogel, Beverley Dr

Senior Research Fellow

  • Senior Research Fellow - School of Mathematics & Applied Statistics (SMAS)

Bev is a Senior Research Fellow within the Centre for Biometrics and Data Science for Sustainable Primary Industries, National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia, University of Wollongong.

Bev has 25+ years of experience working as a biometrician, mostly in grains research. Her main interest is in the use of linear mixed models for the analysis of crop improvement and plant breeding field trial data, particularly in the case of models involving complex treatment and/or covariance structures. Much of her work more recently has focused on advanced genetic models that incorporate genetic relatedness through pedigree information or molecular marker data. This is predominantly with application in hybrid crops. Currently she is also evaluating tensor-product penalized-splines next to autoregressive models for the spatial effects in field trial data analysis. Other areas in which she has experience are in student supervision and in developing biometric education and training initiatives.
