Overview


Dr Azdiar Adil Gazder completed his post-graduate studies at Monash University, Australia which earned him a Graduate Diploma in Materials Engineering in 2003 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Engineering in 2008.

In 2007, Dr Gazder began his academic career in ferrous metallurgy research as an Associate Research Fellow within the Engineering Materials Institute of the School of Mechanical, Materials and Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Wollongong.

In 2008, Dr Gazder conceived a centralised University of Wollongong-Electron Microscopy Centre (UOW-EMC) and between 2009 and 2012 was part of a select four-member team that subsequently specified, designed, established and commissioned the UOW-EMC and its correlated laboratories, instrumentation and microscopes.

In 2013, Dr Gazder was appointed Senior Research Fellow at the UOW-EMC. In his dual roles as manager of the specimen preparation laboratories and scanning electron microscopy specialist, he is responsible for leading scientific research and technology developments in the fields of high resolution electron back-scattering diffraction (EBSD) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS) for advanced material micro-analysis.

Dr Gazder’s current research interests focus on the physical metallurgy of thermo-mechanically processed steel products and other structural alloys such as Cu, Al, Ti and Mg. His studies involve the determination of crystal phase–microstructure–property relationships via a combination of polycrystalline modelling and experimental validation.

Up to June 2018, he is the author and co-author of 82 refereed publications and conference proceedings (~868 citations with an h-index = 17 (Scopus), ~1112 citations with an h-index = 18; i-10 index = 27 (Google Scholar), ~885 citations, 8,934 reads with an RG Score = 32.18 (90th percentile, ResearchGate)) in the areas of advanced electron microscopy, crystallography, neutron, synchrotron and X-ray diffraction and polycrystalline self-consistent modelling.
