Research Overview


  • Dr Ana Heitor is an early career researcher focused on Geotechnical Engineering looking at stress strain behaviour of unsaturated compacted soil. She is a member of the Research Centre for Geotechnical and Railway Engineering at the University of Wollongong which focuses on the interdisciplinary research phases interacting between ground conditions, wheel loading and rail track performance.

    Her research interests are mainly:

    * Compacted (unsaturated) soil  behaviour (small and large strain)

    * Performance of soil stabilization in marginal compacted materials

    * Non-destructive field assessments

    * Behaviour of compacted granular waste materials

    * Performance of Permeable Reactive barriers for geoenviromental applications

    * Liquefaction analysis considering partially saturated conditions

    She has published more than 15 Journal and International Conference Papers related to the behaviour of compacted granular materials.


    Moreover, She has worked in Construction Industry for 2+ years as a Site Engineer. She has solid experience in quality control/assurance procedures applied to the construction of roads and related structures (e.g. bored piles, embankments, subgrade, pavement, drains, culverts).
