Aboriginal Education; Country Centered Approaches to Education, Health and Environment

Anthony provides a unique and engaging approach to place Country centre in designing original pre-service teacher education curricular and a whole of university Curriculum Transformation Program. He build's knowledge relationships that work in partnership with a number of Western educational approaches to assist non-Aboriginal preservice teachers and academics to learn, understand and develop skills in Yuin approaches to Learning & Teaching. From 2008-2022, Anthony has drawn on his expertise to foster learning as a subject coordinator for the School of Education’s, Aboriginal Education program. In the past 5 years, he has developed, implemented, evaluated and updated all of the current subjects offered in the Master of Teaching and undergraduate programs, including five core and elective Aboriginal Education subjects. His educational leadership has grown significantly over the past 3 years, having designed, implemented and delivered a university-wide Country centred curriculum and cultural immersion approach. This program has reached over 300 academic and professional staff, across disciplines and including the VC Executive committee and Council. As part of this important program and core units, he collaborates with others to implement a storying methodology and an Aboriginal story-based assessment approach that he has developed, into diverse subjects using digital storying. His leadership has made significant contributions to learning & teaching development programs across the university. His efforts have enhanced university learning & teaching practices, decolonised assessment, and improved Aboriginal pedagogical understanding and skills, thereby enriching curriculum development. Anthony has demonstrated significant leadership in teaching and learning, and contributions are sought by others in the form of guest lecturing across the university from environmental sustainability in EIS, Aboriginal research practice in SMAH and Human Geography. Anthony' pedagogical approach has inspired a Graduate Certificate: ‘Country as Teacher’ (EDC104.1) at the University of Canberra.  Additionally, he provides mentorship for a range of Teaching & Learning Projects, research initiatives, and staff meetings, as well as engage in ceremonies and professional development for academic and general staff. Beyond UOW, he is recognised for a unique pedagogical approach, delivering keynote addresses at the 2022 University of Canberra ‘Country as Teacher’ Symposium and the 2023-25 Wollongong Reconciliation Conference.
