BIO

Anitta Jia is a doctoral researcher in the School of Arts, English and Media at the University of Wollongong, supported by the Australian Government Research Training Program. Her research sits at the intersection of feminist theory, cultural studies, and film and literary analysis, with a particular focus on representations of female relationships in contemporary Indian cinema and literature.

Her work engages interdisciplinary frameworks, including feminist, postfeminist, and queer theoretical approaches, to examine how gendered subjectivities, affect, and spatial relations are reconfigured in post-2010s cultural production. Her doctoral research extends her previous work at the University of Oxford, where she examined the lesbian continuum in Aparna Sen’s films.

Alongside her research, she brings experience in higher education teaching, curriculum design, and academic mentoring. She is also interested in research governance and higher education administration, particularly in supporting HDR candidates, strengthening research cultures, and contributing to collaborative academic environments.
