Subjects taught include Functional Grammar, Discourse Analysis, Professional Discourse, General Linguistics, Phonology, Corpus Linguistics, World Englishes, Academic Writing and Speaking, Forensic Linguistics, Communication across Cultures, Stylistics, Language and Image.
HDR supervision: I have supervised 20 HDR projects at UoW and Macquarie with 3 currently in progress. Areas for potential HDR supervision include: health communication • health semiotics • linguistics in the medical curriculum • linguistics & animal studies • ecolinguistics • the linguistic treatment of animals •.systemic functional linguistics • register theory • modelling context in linguistics • semantic variation • cohesion & cohesive harmony • the work of Ruqaiya Hasan • modelling agency in linguistics and social semiotics • modelling interpersonal alignment in linguistics and social semiotics • proxemics and gesture • (multimodal) discourse analysis • spoken language analysis • possibly some topics in phonology
